Learning and Resources

The Tennyson Eco Club was started in 2023 to create an opportunity for students at Lord Tennyson Elementary School to work together to experiment with different ways to learn about Earth's ecology.  This learning includes an awareness of human impact and to find ways to create positive behaviour change in ourselves, our school community and beyond.

Together as a group we meet weekly, and we learn through news, governmental sites, TedEd, Kahoots, and various environmental groups.

Ted Ed is TED’s youth and education initiative.  Under the Discover tab, choose the subject and aged range to narrow your search.  

KAHOOTS - Link to Climate related Kahoots, to make learning FUN! 

We try and do at least one kahoot per week at the Eco Club.  Kahoots are an interactive and competitive way to make learning fun for kids!  Make sure to play Kahoots that are related to Channels (e.g. BBC, Wikipedia, Ted Ed, NASA, etc.)

HOW FAR HAVE WE COME? - Link to Simon Clark's video demonstrating our progress on climate change 

Simon Clark is a PhD in atmospheric physics and he creates videos to improve climate literacy.  The above video is one we watched together during an eco club session.

CLIMATE OPTIMISM - Guided Meditation - Imagine the Unimaginable 

Anne Therese Gennari has created a beautiful guided meditation to help us envision the future.   Without this first step, it is difficult to move forward.  

Greta Thunberg's Speech at the 2019 UN World Summit - Link to Speech 

Greta Thunberg was 16 years old at the time when she confronted world leaders at the 2019 UN World Summit.  Together we watched this video, and her speech was powerful and moving.  Recommended watch to inspire young people to speak the truth.
